Ziah Mission School Construction Project - December 2024
November 2023
Joan Krua David hosted a health fair at Ziah Mission School and delivered school supplies in June 2023.
Board member and registered nurse Joan Krua David, an alumni of the Ziah Mission School, led a site visit to the school to bring health supplies and health training to the students. We distributed personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine care products, condoms, and medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, and first aid supplies. School supplies such as computers, printers, and stationery were also needed.

Next phase of new building construction underway
Additional work on the building, during which the pandemic, the repairs of the existing building, and the rainy seasons had slowed down, is now underway. The walls are in place, and the roof is on. We still need to raise an additional $50,000 to complete the building. The repairs to the original building have been completed, and the building is now back in use!

Repairs to Original Building Required (now completed!)
As the school prepared to reopen after the pandemic closure, the increasingly poor condition of the current school building made the facility unsafe for use. The biggest issue was the failure of the existing roof. We paused work on the new building and directed our attention and funds to replace the roof on the existing school during the summer of 2022 to make it safe for the students before the start of the new school year in the Fall and the coming rainy season. We also made interior improvements, such as new bathrooms and fresh paint. The rainy season and repairs to the existing building delayed additional work on the new building, and we have started to turn our attention back to that project.
Below is a picture of the roof under construction, the resulting new roof, and the children celebrating the building's reopening.

Visit to Ziah Mission School, July 2021
Board members Joan David, Jefferson Krua, and Mercy Krua visited the school and inspected the progress of the building. They met with the construction manager and crew. The roof is now on (just in time for the rainy season!). The base building is ready for internal wiring, external finishes, and interior design. Pictures below. Construction is paused until we have raised enough funds to continue!
Schoolchildren gathered to celebrate their visit, singing and dancing. They are very excited to have more classrooms and a library. School is starting again after being suspended due to the global pandemic. Our Board Members met with local leaders and teachers, and a local parent advisory board is now active.
Building update: March 15, 2021
The current buildings (pictured on the home page) date back to the 1960s and were severely damaged during the Liberian civil war from 1989-1996. Over time, despite the local community making many repairs, the buildings further deteriorated and desperately needed replacing. Aided by alumni of the school and generous donors worldwide, we are raising funds to complete the construction and fit-out. Our fundraising goal is $150,000.
As of August 2021, progress achieved includes the foundation completion and work on the walls and structure. We are continuing to build as funds become available.
